The Danesgate Outreach Team

Fishergate Ward, York

A team of behaviour support teachers and behaviour support workers who are managed by the headteacher of The Danesgate Community but who work with pupils in mainstream schools .

The Outreach Team will work with pupils who have social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and will also provide support and guidance to staff in school. The focus is on the primary phase and the caseload of identified pupils comes from referrals from schools. The provision model is agreed with schools on an annual basis. The provision has behaviour support workers linked to schools and outreach intervention classes (known as Kestrel Class and Kestrel House). The Kestrel units are based on mainstream sites and accommodate up to 6 primary aged pupils every day.

The Danesgate Community is funded separately to the Outreach Team and provides full time provision for 5-16 year olds who cannot attend a mainstream school for any reason. Advice on referrals to The Danesgate Community – either for a place on The Danesgate Community roll or for a short period of dual registration – is available from the headteacher of The Danesgate Community.

The Danesgate Outreach Team is funded by schools and this is reviewed annually. The Danesgate Community is funded on a Place Plus Model in line with Department for Education requirements. The Danesgate Community is currently funded for 159 pupils but this is reviewed each year.
